Herbal Teas and Tisanes

Herbal Teas

Throughout history, people have sipped herbal teas for health and healing. Whether enjoyed piping hot or refreshingly chilled, herbal teas consist of leaves, flowers, seeds or roots seeped in hot water. Sipped for their soothing, relaxing or healing properties, herbal teas are enjoyed worldwide.

The term ‘tea’ is actually a misnomer, for the name ‘tea’ is given only to beverages brewed from the Camellia sinensis plant. Green, white and black teas are made from the leaves and stems of the Camellia sinensis. Herbal teas are actually tisanes or infusions. A vast number of plants may be brewed into herbal teas and tisanes. Some herbal teas, like Celestial Seasonings teas, contain herbs or flavorful ingredients such as rose hips, orange peel and other natural flavors. Create your own herbal tea blends from plants you grow at home or from herbs purchased from a reputable health food store.

Herbal Tisanes for Health and Healing

Many people sip herbal tisanes and herbal teas for health and healing. Before brewing a pot of herbal tea, always review the side effects. It’s especially important to avoid any herbs that may negatively interact with prescription medications or cause allergic reactions.

Green Tea

Long enjoyed by Asian cultures, green tea contains the young leaves and buds of the Camellia sinensis plant. Known for its healthful qualities, green tea does contain caffeine. It’s sipped on its own, hot or cold, and incorporated into numerous products.
