Migraine Relief Alternative
From LoveToKnow Herbs
Looking for a good migraine relief alternative? When you’re down with a migraine, chances are you’ll do anything to relieve the severe pain and discomfort.
What Is a Migraine?
A migraine is a medical condition characterized by severe head pain on either one or both sides of the head. Migraines are typically described as a throbbing pain in the temples and behind one eye or ear. Other symptoms common with migraines are vomiting, sensitivity to light, sensitivity to sound, sensitivity to smell, and auras that involve spots or flashing lights.
People can experience migraines infrequently, or in severe cases, several times a week. A migraine can last anywhere from a few hours to three or four days.
What Causes Migraine?
It has not been conclusively determined what causes migraine, although there are a number of theories. There are certain things that trigger migraines such as:
- Lack of sleep
- Skipping meals
- Too much sunlight
- Caffeine
- Alcohol
- Certain foods containing nitrates, MSG and tyramine
- Hormonal changes
Because of this, many researchers theorize that migraines are caused by an overabundance of naturally occurring brain substances that that cause blood vessels to swell and press on nerves in the head.
Medical Treatments of Migraine
There are a number of promising pharmaceutical treatments that seem to be quiet effective in treating migraines. The drug, Topamax, is one that has been used successfully for migraine prevention; however, it has a number of unpleasant side-effects that may be worse than the problem it is treating.
There are also drugs that offer palliative care – treating the symptoms of migraines as they arise. The current class of drugs that is the most successful in treating migraines are Triptans, which include medications like Zomig, Imitrix and Relpax. While these medications are usually effective, there are a number of risks and side effects associated with taking these drugs. Side effects and risks of Triptans include:
- Severe chest pain or tightness, up to and including risk of heart attack
- Shortness of breath
- Sudden, severe abdominal pain
- Dizziness, visual changes
- Vertigo
- Aggravation
- Risk of cardiovascular events
With all of these side effects and risks, you might want to be safer and select a migraine relief alternative.
Migraine Relief Alternative
Is there a good migraine relief alternative? There are several natural products that claim to alleviate the pain of migraines naturally, without the side effects. One such product is Micranium.
What is Micranium?
Micranium is a natural migraine relief product developed by Swiss scientists. Its main active ingredient is green tea, which the company’s marketing says is bioavilable and 1000 times stronger than other green tea products. Other active ingredients include water, glycerol, salt, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), potassium sorbate and lemon grass.
The supplement is taken daily as a migraine preventive, and delivery is either through tablets, nasal spray, or both.
Does Micranium Work?
According to testimonials on the company’s website, a number of people who have suffered from migraines for years have experienced a great deal of success with Micranium.
Digging deeper and finding third party independent testimonials, however, is a little trickier. It appears that there are very few independent testimonials to be found. Further, a search of Google yields no studies looking into the product’s efficacy for migraine relief.
The bottom line? It is difficult to know. Anecdotal evidence that is part of the manufacturer’s website seems to be the primary supporting evidence for the efficacy of Micranium.
The active ingredients, however, are harmless. It is doubtful that there is any harm in taking Micranium; however, before taking any herbal supplements, you should always check with your doctor.
Conclusion
Migraine pain can be severe and debilitating. There are a number of natural cures you can try in an attempt to gain relief, such as avoiding migraine triggers, homeopathic remedies, biofeedback and relaxation techniques.
Before undergoing any course of treatment for migraines – whether medical or natural – always check with your doctor and have a discussion of the full benefits and risks entailed in that course of treatment.
